MANILA, Aug. 3 – Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman on Tuesday stressed that the government of President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III is very much committed in reducing the poverty levels in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Soliman, in a statement, said President Aquino, together with his financial and social development planners, are now hard at work crafting economic programs that will help poor families residing in the ARMM provinces of Basilan (except Isabela City), Lanao Del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and the Islamic City of Marawi.

Government estimates place 63 to 65 percent of the ARMM’s more than five million population to be living in extreme levels of poverty and hunger.

And in the same vein, Soliman said President Aquino has expressed his commitment in helping stabilize the economic well-being of the 4.6 million poor families nationwide.

She added that job generation plans for these economically depressed families are now on foot. (PNA)
