Manobo leader killed in Agusan del Sur ambush

CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City, August 2 -– A Manobo leader was killed Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle was ambushed by unidentified gunmen at Purok 5, Barangay Padiay, Sibagat town, Agusan del Sur, police reported Monday.

Initial report received at regional command of Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) here, identified the victim as Leonardo I. Behing, alias “Datu Andot”, 44, and a resident of Purok 6, Barangay Poblacion, Sibagat town.

Wounded in the 4:30 p.m. ambush was Antonio B. Behing, a resident of the same place, the police report said.

The police did not indicate if the wounded Behing is a relative of Datu Andot. He was brought to Agusan del Norte hospital.

According to initial report from the Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Office (PPO) and Sibagat Municipal Police Station (MPS), Datu Andot, along with Antonio, were riding on a single motorcycle on their way to Barangay Padiay from Barangay Perez of the said town when ambushed by two unidentified men armed with long firearms of still unknown caliber.

Andot was hit on the different parts of the body resulting to his instantaneous death while Antonio sustained three gunshot wounds on the left portion of his shoulder, police report said.

The suspects fled to unknown direction after the shooting incident, police said.

Initial police investigation also disclosed that the motive of the incident is personal grudge. (PNA)
