MANILA, July 25 — An official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will also monitoring, just like any other Filipino on the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

“Of course, I will listen to it,” said Bishop Deogracias Iniguez, chairman of the CBCP Public Affairs Committee.

Among the issues, he wants the Chief Executive to discuss during his SONA are the issues on graft and corruption, CARPER (Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program with extension and reforms) and illegal gambling.

Iniguez said the President should tackle the said issues as these are all related to the country’s development.

“I think these are the serious issues related to development,” the Caloocan prelate said.

The issues of graft and corruption, CARPER and illegal gambling were part of the 13-point advocacies that the bishops earlier presented to President Aquino in order to help transform the country.

Meanwhile, Iniguez asked the public to be more watchful on the activities of the Aquino administration even after the SONA.

“We should monitor the way he will govern,” he said.

Aquino will be announcing his plans for the country, in his first SONA before the members of both houses of Congress, which also symbolizes the start of the 15th Congress on Monday, July 26. (PNA) LOR/FGP/rsm
