MANILA, July 23 – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) strongly condemned on Friday the hostage-taking of seven civilians, including two children, by the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and their attempt to burn these people alive in Barangay Alang Salacsac, Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya on Thursday.

Baldoz on Friday quickly responded to an OFW family in distress by directing the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to provide immediate assistance after the family’s head, overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Procopio de la Cruz, died in a bus accident in Italy the other day.

MANILA, July 23 — President Benigno Simeon Aquino III installed Major General Arturo B. Ortiz on Friday as the new commanding general of the Philippine Army.
Ortiz, a holder of the Medal for Valor, the highest decoration in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), replaced Lt. Gen. Reynaldo Mapagu, who was promoted as AFP Vice Chief of Staff. Ortiz is the 53rd chief of the Army, the main force of the AFP.
