MANILA, July 14 – Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ramon Paje said on Wednesday he is focusing on the promotion of clean air and water in Metro Manila and in other urban centers nationwide.
In an interview with reporters, Paje said he will also prioritize other major environment programs, including land productivity, enhancement of forest and marine resources and an honest-to-goodness climate change mitigation.
Paje said he is doing these things on orders of President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III.
He added that he will also promote adaptation and anticipation programs, well-defined and effective anti-corruption measures, and enhance forest and marine resources with the completion of the delineation of forest line boundaries.
Paje said he will also implement an information campaign and require community service against environment law violators.
He noted that under Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, violators are required to render community service.
“On solid waste management, very clear po doon ang provision on community service. Those who will be apprehended committing violation of R.A. 9003, we will require community service,” Paje said.
The community service will take 15 days or more. (PNA) scs/JCA
