MANILA, July 14 – Electricity, telephone lines and water services have been restored in Novaliches and other key areas in Quezon City hours after storm “Basyang” has left the country.

By 5 p.m. Wednesday, Quezon City officials said the Manila Electric Company, Maynilad Water Services Inc., Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company) and Bayantel have restored their services.

QC Mayor Herbert Bautista told reporters they have mobilized the QC social workers to distribute food and other relief goods to victims of the storm.

Bautista noted the thousands of residents in Novaliches who groped in darkness before dawn Wednesday and went about their daily chores without tap water throughout the morning.

Power and telephone lines that were knocked down Tuesday night were restored by Wednesday afternoon.

Local officials said they are still checking for damages and casualties in the district.

Quezon City officials said flooded areas in the city included Aurora-Abad Santos Avenue, Tandang Sora Avenue, and Sangandaan in Novaliches.

Small floods early Wednesday along EDSA particularly in front of Camp Aguinaldo caused heavy traffic.

Many journalists covering the Quezon City beat had a hard time emailing their stories due to power fluctuations throughout the day. (PNA) vcs/JCA
