MANILA, July 3 — Employees of the Social Security System (SSS) asked President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III on Saturday to appoint as SSS administrator a long-time serving career executive who is considered the foremost expert in the country on social security administration.

This is to ensure the stability and viability of the fund, the 1,000-strong SSS rank and file employees said in a petition addressed to the President.

They expressed their clamor for the appointment of Horacio Templo, SSS chief actuary and executive vice president (EVP), as SSS president and chief executive officer.

"We deem it proper to recommend our colleague, who rose from the ranks to become the highest career officer of our beloved SSS," the employees said.

"Templo has been with the SSS for 34 years and knows every facet of SSS operations," they added.

SSS has more than 28 million members and a network of about 150 branches and 14 foreign offices. It manages about P280 billion in assets, including P260 billion investments in blue-chip stocks, government securities, member and development loans, housing and real estate. (PNA)
