MANILA, July 2 -– An independent survey firm said Friday President Benigno C. “Noynoy” Aquino III created a common feeling of well-being and trust in the air at least among Filipinos in the Metro Manila where 54 percent.

The people surveyed by StratPOLLS said they have “full trust” that the new president will perform his sworn duty well and deliver on his promises.

This was the result of a one-day survey made by StratPOLLS among 500 adult respondents in eight cities in the metropolis namely Quezon City, Valenzuela, Pasig, Pasay, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Manila and Makati.

Thirty seven percent said that they have “little trust” in Aquino even as 5 percent said that they have “some mistrust” and 3 percent said that they “do not trust” him at all with 1 percent expressing no opinion.

This means that Aquino did not only hit the ground running with his fiery speech but also scored initially well among residents of the metropolis.

“It is clear that a great majority of the people liked what he said, approved of what he said and accepted what he promised he would deliver,” the survey said.

“Aquino appears to be on the right track right from the start,” said Prof. Alfredo S. Sureta, Jr., executive director of StratPOLLS.

Full approval rating for Aquino was highest in Makati City at 72, and lowest in Manila at 32 with the rest scoring this way: Quezon City 48 full approval, Pasig 56, Pasay 60, Caloocan 60 and Las Piñas 48.

When asked to name at least three topics in his speech that appealed to them the most, 58 liked the one where he made reference to the ban on indiscriminate and illegal use of “wang-wang” (blaring siren), 54 the fight against corruption and the possible prosecution of corrupt officials in the past government, and 52 Aquino’s reference to “no more patronage politics.” (PNA) LOR/JCA
