ILOILO CITY, June 28 – New congressman Jerry P. Treñas of this southern city is asking the local media to give their full support to new city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

Acknowledging the role of the media in the development efforts of the city government, Treñas said his nine years partnership with the media, particularly the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps, has imprinted an indelible mark in the history of the city.

“Through you, the media, everyone knows what is happening in our city. Let us continue this partnership and give all-out support to Jed so we can achieve our dreams and aspirations for the city,” Treñas said.

Treñas and Mabilog ran under different political parties in the May 10, 2010 elections. Both won but their platforms of government are parallel and their programs are similar.

Mabilog has vowed to continue and support the development programs initiated by Treñas while the new congressman vowed to give assistance to the city through his priority development assistance fund.

Both claimed their partnership for city development will transcend political boundaries and will work harmoniously for the city’s welfare.

The local media in return, through press corps president Bert Ladera of RMN 774, promised to give Mabilog the needed support and cooperation with a performance audit after the first 100 days in office.

Ladera also said the media will not hesitate to report what is happening in the city government including all its lapses and shortcoming of services to the people it vowed to serve and must fulfill its role as a watchdog against graft and corruption. (PNA) LAP/AJP/LCPendon
