Basilan governor wants lawless elements relentlessly pursued

ZAMBOANGA CITY, June 24 – Basilan Governor Jum Akbar on Thursday strongly called on the police and the military to relentlessly pursue all the lawless elements in the island province of Basilan.

Akbar made the call after lawless elements staged anew an ambush that resulted in the death of four people and wounded two others in Maluso, Basilan.

The victims were aboard a passenger jeepney traveling from Isabela City, the capital of Basilan, to Sumisip town when they were waylaid around 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sitio Stardust, Barangay Tubigan, Maluso town.

Sr. Supt. Antonio Mendoza, Basilan police director, said investigation continues to unmask the suspects in last Wednesday’s ambush.

Akbar said the lawless elements should be pursued relentlessly to put an end to the atrocities they had been committing in Basilan.

The governor also urged the public to assist the authorities concerned by way of providing information that could help lead to the neutralization of the lawless elements.

He said all information would be treated with confidentiality to ensure the safety of the informants.

Akbar expressed her sympathy to the families of the innocent victims, who are living a simple and peaceful life, victimized by the lawless elements. (PNA)
