PGMA reopens Metropolitan Theater; attends DPWH anniversary celebration

MANILA, June 23 — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led the unveiling of the marker and reopening of the newly-rehabilitated Metropolitan Theater in Manila on Wednesday. < Also present during the occasion were National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Executive Director Cecille Guidote-Alvarez, Mayor Alfredo S. Lim and actor-TV host German Moreno.

After the unveiling of the marker, President Arroyo was immediately escorted inside the theater and watched the initial show on stage.

Guidote-Alvarez said the restoration of the Metropolitan Theater was made possible through the effort of President Arroyo with the assistance of the Manila city government under Mayor Lim.

President Arroyo proceeded later to the main office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Port Area, Manila to attend the 112th anniversary of the agency.

DPWH Secretary Victor Domingo assisted President Arroyo in unveiling the agency's book entitled “Joy Ride” which features all the infrastructure projects initiated under the Arroyo administration.

During the same occasion, Domingo cited President Arroyo as the "24/7" working President "who serves as the model and inspiration for the DPWH employees." < He noted that because the country has a very hardworking President, all the projects undertaken and supervised by the DPWH were all finished on time.

Domingo also thanked President Arroyo for giving him the chance to head the DPWH. (PNA) scs/rudyma
