MANILA, June 23 –- Two suspected holdup men were shot dead by Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Motorcycle Anti-Street Crime Operatives (MASCO) in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa, Quezon City early Wednesday morning.

Chief Superintendent Benjardi H. Mantele, QCPD director, said the still unidentified suspects were killed after they engaged the motorcycle-riding lawmen in a shootout at about 1:25 a.m. at Kilyawan St., Sitio San Roque, Barangay Pag-asa.

In a report to Mantele, the MASCO team composed of Senior Inspector Wilfredo Laureta, PO3 Erwin Stephen Vasquez, PO2 Ferdinand Dandoy, PO2 Samuel Leonardo, PO2 Jerico Gonzales, PO2 Ryan Fabian and PO1 Flordencio Valenzona said they were conducting anti-criminality operations in the area when their attention was caught by a female holdup victim yelling for help.

The woman, Leonida Vire, 48, married and residing at 24 Sinagtala St., Project 8, Barangay Bahay Toro, told the lawmen she was robbed by the suspects at gunpoint after she got off a bus near a shopping mall at EDSA near Sitio San Roque.

The policemen chased the suspects and ordered them to surrender peacefully. However, the suspects fired shots at the lawmen as they tried to escape with Vire’s shoulder bag containing some P2,000 cash and personal belongings.

This forced the policemen to fire back, resulting in the death of the two suspects.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered a caliber .38 revolver with no serial number and a fragmentation grenade from the slain suspects. (PNA) scs/JCA
