MANILA, June 18 — The camps of President-elect Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III and Vice-President-elect Jejomar Binay proved their critics wrong about their alleged misunderstandings.

This, as members of the Aquino and Binay families came face to face when they visited the Quirino Granstand in Luneta in preparation for the inauguration of the country's new leaders on June 30.

According to Kris Aquino, the younger sister of the new Chief Executive, there is no intrigue between them (Jejomar Binay, Jr.) as they have already explained.

“Walang intriga sa aming dalawa, communication line have remained open. Junjun (nickname of the Binay, Jr.) and I have maintaianed open communication lines throughout the campaign.

"Maraming times inexplain sa kanya na sana huwag masamain where we’re coming from because we’re just being sensitive to the feelings of Noy’s running mate, in the same way that their family is sensitive to the feelings of President Erap,” she said.

The television host personally visited the venue Friday morning to make sure that everything will be in place during the event.

For his part, the newly- elected Mayor of Makati City denied that there’s a rift between them and the Aquino family.

“Kung may ganung controversy, wala sa amin yun. Lagi naming sinasabi sa isa’t-isa, our relationship goes beyond politics. Kung may ganoong issues, wala sa amin yun. We understand the situation of Noy and the Aquino family,” Binay said.

The Quirino Grandstand is undergoing a massive facelift.

On the other hand, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the agency which is tasked to rehabilitate the venue, where historical events were staged in the past, assured that they will finish the work before June 30.

Among the works being conducted are the repair of the grandstand's floor and concrete slabs and girders and repaint of the entire structure.

Carbon fiber would be used to retrofit the beams and columns, which is stronger than steel.

Aside from the rehabilitation works, the department will also extend the platform of the grandstand and its canopy by 30 meters with the anticipated influx of prominent personalities, newly- elected officials and other guests attending the event. (PNA) LOR/FGP/utb
