MANILA, June 17 –Two suspected robbers were killed in an alleged shootout with policemen in Pasay City Wednesday night.

Pasay police chief Sr. Supt. Raul Petrasanta identified the fatalities as Ruben Pagtakhan Jr, 30 and a resident of 573 Ventanilla Street and Xyrus Sarmiento, 30 of 563 J.Luna Street.

Pagtakhan died on the spot while Sarmiento at the Pasay City General Hospital while being treated for gunshot wounds in the body.

Initial investigation, conducted by SPO1 Cris Gabutin and PO3 Nestro Rubel of the Pasay police Station Investigation and Detective Management Section, showed that the two were on board a motorcycle (2084-PN) when they were flagged down by police manning a checkpoint along Arnaiz Avenue at about 10:45pm.

The two were suspected of being behind a rush of robberies in the city.

Seized from the suspects were one .22 revolver, a 9mm pistol and a toy gun.

Police said the suspects had been in and out of jail due to their involvement in several robberies.

Pagtakhan was included in the watchlist of the Southern Police District (SPD).

But Pagtakhan's wife, Grace, denied that her husband was a robber.

She also doubted that her husband would be brave enough to engage policemen in a gunfight as he was only holding a toy gun. (PNA) RMA/CLTC
