(Metro News) Engineer shot dead after resisting robbery

MANILA, June 16 –The Manila Police District (MPD) opted to utilize the closed-circuit TV cameras to identity the two-motorcycle riding men who shot dead a 50-year-old ship engineer while smoking outside an upscale condominium in Malate, Manila Thursday morning.

Police identified the victim as Third Engineer Edralin Amon, 50, a native of Davao City and resident of 2128 Singalong St. , Malate, Manila.

He died from a gunshot wound on his left temple while being treated at the Ospital ng Maynila (OSMA).

Investigation showed that the engineer was shot at close range by two suspected robbers, who fled aboard a motorcycle after the incident.

Police Officer 3 Jonathan Ruiz, of the Manila Police District- Homicide section said the incident happened in front of Marian Tower condominium at 2129 Singalong St. Malate, Manila at 7:23 a.m. Thursday.

Ruiz said the victim, who was in Manila to attend a training seminar for seafarers, went outside the house to smoke cigarettes when the two robbers on board a motorcycle without license plate, suddenly stopped in front of him.

At gunpoint, they announced the heist. The victim reportedly resisted, prompting one of the two robbers to shot him at close range.

A CCTV footage from the condominium showed that the victim tried to run away from the robbers but he was suddenly shot by the one of the two men using unknown caliber of handgun.

The robbers took the engineer’s gold necklace and expensive wristwatch before they sped off. (PNA) RMA/JES
