Guests at “Straight to the Point” weekly media forum held at Tinapayan Festival along Dapitan, Manila on Tuesday (June 8, 2010) discuss their agencies’ preparations for the opening of classes on June 15. The Joint Canvassing Committee of Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, is expected to proclaim on Wednesday Liberal Party presidential candidate Benigno Aquino III and Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino vice-presidential bet Jejomar Binay, as the winning candidates in last May’s elections. This, even if the certificate of canvass (COC) from Lanao del Sur in southern Philippines, which held a special election on June 3, is yet to be tallied. Based on the 277 COCs that were canvassed, Aquino garnered 15 million votes, almost 6 million votes higher than his closest rival Joseph Estrada, who obtained 9.5 million votes. Binay, on the other hand, received 14,501,371 votes while his closest rival, Mar Roxas (Liberal Party), got 13,889,416 votes or a difference of 611,955 votes. (PNA photos by Jess Escaros Jr.)
