ILOILO CITY, June 1 – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here said that their will be no more special election for Barangay Generosa Cristolbal-Colon in Guimbal town on June 3.

Comelec provincial supervisor lawyer Elizabeth Doronila said that the Comelec-central office in Manila had decided with finality that the 462 residents of Generosa would not cast their ballots.

She said that the town had already proclaimed its winning candidates and that the results from the barangay would not affect the entire result in the local level.

Registered voters of Barangay Generosa Cristolbal-Colon, Guimbal failed to cast their votes last May 10 after the ballots delivered to the barangay were those intended for Barangay Buenas Aeres in Samar.

Ballots intended for Guimbal were the ones sent to Bry. Buenas Aeres. A special election for this barangay was slated though on Thursday.

Doronila said that the town where Barangay Buenas Aeres belonged did not proclaim its official winners then the Comelec allowed them to proceed with the special elections.

The same would have happened in Guimbal had the candidates and locales not insisted on proclaiming the winners in their town without the results from Barangay Generosa Cristolbal-Colon.

Doronila said that residents of the affected precincts in Guimbal might feel bad over the Comelec decision. But she said that they could still vote in the coming barangay elections slated Oct. 25 this year. (PNA) RMA/LPCarnaje
