DAVAO CITY, May 31 – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) here joined the Department of Education's (DepEd) nationwide activity dubbed as "Bayanihan Para sa Paaralan," also known as Brigada Eskwela from May 18-22.

Colonel Leopoldo Galon Jr., the newly installed Group Commander of 5th Civil Relations Group (CRG), said troops from Eastern Mindanao Command, Civil Military Operations Unit (U7) and 5th CRG, Civil Relations Service and AFP based in Camp Felix Apolinario, Panacan here volunteered and joined in bringing the Brigada Eskwela to a success.

Galon said the troops in their uniform carried construction supplies, painting materials, garden tools and cleaning paraphernalia and went straight to Dr. Santiago Dacudao Sr. National High School in Sitio Malagamot, Panacan, located near the camp.

"We sent troops to Dr. Santiago Dacudao Sr. National High School to join the school teachers, students, parents and other volunteers for the Brigada Eskwela. And we would like to inform the Dabawenyos that the military, through the Eastern Mindanao Command, wholeheartedly supports the programs of other agencies of the government that benefits the community, most especially the young ones," he said.

The troops completed the repair of two basketball boards, repainted the front view of the two-storey building, cut off the giant grasses and cleaned up the school yards.

"The Brigada Eskwela project of the Department of Education is a brilliant endeavor that the AFP will continue to support. The AFP believes the old saying Ang Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng Bayan," Galon said. (PNA)
