Taiwan vessel with 3 Filipinos hijacked off Seychelles

MANILA, May 25 –Somali pirates hijacked the "FV Tai Yuan 227," a Taiwan-registered fishing vessel with three Filipino crew members onboard, while at fishing grounds north of the Seychelles on the Indian Ocean on May 13, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Also on board are nine Chinese, Taiwanese, Kenyan and Mozambique nationals.

With this latest incident, there are now a total of 63 Filipino seafarers of five separate vessels being held captive by Somali pirates, the DFA said on Tuesday.

DFA said it is closely coordinating with the vessel's principal and other concerned agencies for the early resolution of the case.

The rest of the captives are: 19 on the “MV Eleni P”, one on the “MV Iceberg 1,” 19 on the “MT Samho Dream” and 21 on the “MV Voc Daisy.” (PNA)
