ILOILO CITY, May 25 – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) here said that ‘adulterated drugs’ are being peddled in Iloilo.

PDEA director Paul Ledesma said that adulterated drugs abound in the local drug markets in the region, but some buyers were not aware of it.

Some methamphetamine hydrochloride or 'shabu' sold here contains more ‘tawas’ (alum) while ecstasy sold to youths are mixed with low-quality cocaine and some unknown substances like talc, which is being used in making chalk.

In a buy-bust operation, PDEA caught Arsenio Gadian repacking and selling adulterated packets of shabu at his home in Brgy. Zamora-Milleza, City Proper area, recently.

Gadian was also using two rooms in his house where he was repacking ‘adulterated’ shabu. These adulterated shabu contains pulverized ‘tawas’ and were sold by Gadian to ardent clients.

Also found in Gadian’s home were six big sachets of shabu, lots of plastics for repacking, and a few ecstasy and other drug paraphernalia.

Gadian is a former drug pusher who just got released from prison and has been selling semi-fake shabu, said Ledesma. Current street price of shabu in the region ranges from P9,000 to P10,000 per gram, while ecstasy mixed with fake substances are being sold between P1,500 to P1,800 among party-lovers of some social clubs here.

Ledesma said PDEA continued its anti-drugs campaign and beefing up operations against productions of adulterated drug in the city. (PNA) RMA/LPCarnaje
