DAVAO CITY, May 24 – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Davao is all set to release a new zonal valuation within the next few months in Davao City.
Rodrigo Rivamonte, assistant regional director for BIR-Southern Mindanao, said after 13 years, the existing zonal values that they have right now are no longer realistic and there is already a tremendous gap.
With this, Rivamonte said a public consultation has been scheduled on Monday in a local hotel restaurant here.
"We would like to consult with the people if the new values will be acceptable to them," he said.
He said a process, which started last 2008, was set out by the BIR to map out all areas of Davao City –from the prime areas of the city proper to the farthest boondocks of the city.
"Not only because it is required by law, but more importantly, we want to know the sentiments of the people regarding the proposed zonal values. No one wants taxes but it is the lifeblood of government and it is mandated by law," Rivamonte said.
"We want all the stakeholders to come, which is generally everyone, to come and ask the questions to clarify certain points and for us all to arrive at a better zonal valuation," Rivamonte said.
A sub-technical committee for real property valuation was created to oversee the proposed zonal valuations. The committee is chaired by Rivamonte, co-chaired by Abilia Bentulan and Noel Gonzales, both revenue district officers of Davao City.
Other members of the committee include Alfonso Nonato, Manuel Cinco, Leah Parreno, Teresita Manungas, Melquiades Gujilde Jr., Grecio Paul Diaz, Beverlie Montebon, Anecito Calonia Jr., Eddie Galera II, Christine Camina, Juan Frivaldo, Conrad Mulit, James Cuadra, Dexter Ng, Virginia Rosalita and Fe Toreno.(PNA)
