MANILA, May 15 – Elite government troops raided a lair of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and rogue Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels in Basilan at dawn on Saturday, resulting in the death of a suspect and the capture of 14 others, a top military official in Western Mindanao said.

Initial military reports disclosed that two combat groups from the 13th Scout Ranger Company and Scout Ranger Class 175 swooped down on the lair of the two groups at the vicinity of Bohe Pange in Sumisip town at around 5 a.m.

Lt. Gen. Ben Dolorfino, commander of the military’s Western Mindanao Command, said the 15 enemies were led by a certain Umar Ipong, alias Uman Ipong. It was not immediately clear if Ipong was the one killed or among those captured.

Dolorfino said no one was reported killed or injured on the military side.

The troops recovered at the lair an M203 grenade launcher, six M16 rifles, a Garand rifle, two Icom radios, a grenade, a blasting cap, a round of 60mm mortar shell, two battery packs for Icom, eight sets of camouflage uniforms, three jungle packs, seven ammunition carrying vests, three pairs of combat boots, and two cellphones, Dolorfino said.

Follow-up operations are underway, he added.

The Abu Sayyaf terrorists and the rogue MILF rebels are blamed for a number of atrocities, including kidnappings and bombings, in the province.

Last month, the Abu Sayyaf attacked Isabela City that claimed the lives of 15 people, including three Marine soldiers. (PNA) scs/VR

In order to terminate the ASG, the AFP must continue
Sending elite forces in order not to be known by the enemy of the state.
The planting rice strategy is not an option but instead on covert ops to prevent casualties.
But intel must be specific rather than experimenting.
