ILOILO CITY, May 14 – Just several months after the newly-elected national and local leaders assume office on July 1, the entire Filipino nation will once again cast votes for barangay leaders and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials in October.

However, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Regional Director for Western Visayas Atty. Ray Rene Buac stressed that there is no law mandating that the conduct of the synchronized barangay and SK elections will also be automated similar to the recent May 10 national and local elections.

He explained that the barangay and SK elections are only being done at the barangay level and entails only a small number of voters and candidates.

The last barangay and SK elections was held in October 2007. (PNA)
