TARLAC CITY, Tarlac, May 14 – Gelacio "Ace" Manalang has won in his return bid as mayor of this city.
The City Board of Canvassers, led by lawyer Cristina G. Garcia, officially proclaimed Manalang on Thursday in a ceremony held at the plenary hall of the Sangguniang Panlungsod here.
Manalang garnered 49,223 total votes, which is 3,000 votes more than his closest rival Sherwin Rigor.
"I would like to thank the people of Tarlac City for giving me a chance to come back as their mayor," Manalang said as he vowed to steer this city to progress and development.
Manalang, who was a three-term mayor here, is the father of the Tarlac cityhood.
After his term as mayor, he ran for the gubernatorial post in 2004 but lost to the late Jose "Aping" Yap Sr.
He also tried to run for city mayor in 2007 but lost to Mayor Genaro Mendoza. (PNA)
