ILOILO CITY, May 14 – A feeling of euphoria envelopes the entire social hall of Iloilo City Hall after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) finally proclaimed the 15 duly-elected winners of Iloilo City at around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Amid chants, clapping and sounds of firecrackers, lawyer Robert Salazar announced the names of winners led by congressman-elect now incumbent mayor Jerry Trenas. He was joined by his wife Rosalie and children who likewise expressed a sigh of relief that the long wait is over.

Also declared winners were incumbent vice-mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog as mayor-elect and incumbent councilor Jose Espinosa III as vice-mayor-elect.

Elected as councilors were Nielex Tupas, Jeffrey Ganzon, Perla Zulueta, David Raymund Jamora, Edward Yee, Jason Gonzales, Joshua Alim, Lyndon Acap, Rodel Agado, Ely Estante Jr, R'Leonne Gerochi and Plaridel Nava II.

The proclamation came after the Comelec en banc approved the petition to decrease the level of threshold from 100 to 99 percent, which is reflective of the votes cast from 342 out of the 344 clustered precincts.

Of the 243,033 registered voters only 193,153 cast their votes on Monday.

Meantime, Trenas and Mabilog also extended their hand of reconciliation to the Gonzalez camp led by incumbent Rep. Raul Gonzalez Jr. and his father former chief presidential legal counsel and Lakas-Kampi-CMD chair for Iloilo City, Raul Gonzalez Sr. (PNA)
