MANILA, May 14 — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will be conferring awards to deserving military officers and men in connection with the honest, orderly, peaceful and credible conduct of the presidential and local elections last Monday.

AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Arnulfo Marcelo said on Friday AFP chief Gen. Delfin Bangit has given orders to recognize the feat of the soldiers, specifically those who were directly involved in overseeing peace for the elections.

“The chief of staff has given instructions already to recommend those enlisted personnel as well as officers who were directly involved in the smooth conduct of the elections,” Burgos told a press briefing in Camp Aguinaldo.

Burgos said among those who would be conferred the military medals are the troops who were involved in clashes with armed groups, including the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels who marred the conduct of the elections in some areas.

He also said soldiers who died while on election duties would be posthumously promoted to the next rank. (PNA) scs/VR
