19 Filipino seafarers seized off Oman reported safe

MANILA, May 14 — A vessel with 19 Filipino crew members was seized by Somali pirates off the coast of Oman on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The European Union Naval Force (EU NavFor) was quoted as saying that the crew —- which also includes two Romanians and one Indian national — are safe and their condition continually monitored.

The Liberian-flagged, Greek-owned “MV Eleni P” was reportedly hijacked off Oman while on its way to Kandla in India.

The DFA reported that the latest incident brought to 63 the number of Filipino seafarers on board five vessels seized separately in he past months and being held by Somali pirates:

Ransoms are ruled out by the DFA in exchange for their release. (PNA)
