Bayan Muna asks Comelec to conduct manual audit in all ARMM provinces

MANILA, May 13 — A petition was filed before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) asking to conduct manual audit of party list votes in all the precincts in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Bayan Muna Reps. Teddy Casino and Neri Colmenares asked the Comelec to order the conduct of manual audit in the provinces of Sulu, Basilan, Tawi-tawi, Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao.

Colmenares said there is a need to conduct a manual audit since the delay in the transmission of votes in the said region to the National Board of Canvassers might be part of a plan to manipulate the results.

“The strange failure to transmit is compounded by public knowledge that the ARMM provinces have been historically considered as election hotspots due to widespread election fraud and election-related violence,” the petitioners said.

They added, “It is of national interest that the integrity of this country’s first automated elections by ensuring that the votes that shall be canvassed and transmitted to the NBOC are truly reflective of the will of the electorate.”

Likewise, they asked the poll body to order the Provincial Board of Canvassers to immediately canvass the results in the said provinces.

The region has a total of 1,053 polling precincts, or equivalent to 531,393 votes.

On the other hand, the poll body’s website showed that the NBOC was already receiving election results from the ARMM. (PNA)
