BALANGA CITY, Bataan, May 12 — The Provincial Board of Canvassers on Tuesday afternoon officially proclaimed the winning governor, vice-governor and congressmen and members of the provincial Board in the first and second districts of Bataan.
First to be proclaimed were reelectionists Gov. Enrique Garcia and son Rep. Albert Garcia of Bataan’s second district.
Aris Gaza and Efren Cruz were officially announced as winning members of the provincial board in the first district. Both are with the Garcia team under the Lakas-Kampi-CMD.
Declared winners for the position of provincial board members in the second district under the group of Garcia were Manuel Beltran, Jovy Banzon, Dante Manalaysay, Ed Florendo and Gerry Roxas.
“Tapos na ang eleksiyon, magkaisa-isa na tayo and I am offering my hands in peace sa lahat ng mamamayan ng Bataan (The elections were finished. Let us unite and I am offering my hands in peace to all the citizens of Bataan),” Governor Garcia said while thanking his supporters.
The elder Garcia won over his rival Limay Mayor Nelson David.
Congressman Garcia lauded the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) provincial office for what he termed as peaceful and orderly election in Bataan.
“Isang araw lang ang eleksiyon at maikli lang ang tatlong taon, magsama-sama na tayo alang-alang sa ating lalawigan, (The election is only one day and the three years are too short. Let us unite for the welfare of the province),“ said the young Garcia.
The congressman stopped the bid of Lawyer Marie Gonzales, daughter of Defense Sec. Norberto Gonzales.
The second batch that was proclaimed is the group of reelectionist Rep. Herminia Roman of the first district.
“We were able to prove na kung magtanim ng pagmamahal, pagmamahal din ang aanihin (that if you sowed love, you will also reap love),” declared Roman who beat the governor’s daughter Gila Garcia.
Proclaimed with Roman were Teri Onor, Jojo Payumo and Guding Ferrer as members of the provincial Board in the first district. No one from their group won in the second district.
Lawyer Elmo Duque, provincial election supervisor, said the victories of those proclaimed should be celebrated because “they are the first to be elected under the historic electronic system of elections.”
For vice-governor, provincial Board member Efren Pascual Jr. defeated Samal town Mayor Rolando Tigas, an ally of Garcia.
