Comelec declares failure of elections in 7 Lanao del Sur towns

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, May 10 — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has declared failure of national and local elections in seven towns of Lanao del Sur province, a military official said Monday.

1st Lt. Steffani Cacho, Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) information officer, said the failure of elections was declared due to the absences of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs).

Cacho said that aside from the non-appearance of he BEIs, the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines also malfunctioned.

The failure of election was declared in the towns of Masiu, Marogong, Bayang, Tubaran, Lumba Bayabao, Sultan Dumalundong and Lumbaka Unayan.

Cacho said the Comelec has yet to decided when to conduct the national and local elections in Lanao del Sur which is part of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Aside from Lanao del Sur, the other provinces of ARMM are Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao and Marawi City. (PNA) RMA/Teofilo P. Garcia/rsm
