Five supporters of Davao Sur town's NP mayoralty candidate dead on the spot in a road mishap

BARANGAY ASTORGA, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, May 9 — Five supporters of Nationalista Party mayoralty re-electionist lawyer Joel Ray Lopez were dead on the spot after their vehicle, a multi-cab, was hit head on by a forward truck at 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

Witness Norelyn Ambray, who was outside her house along the national highway, said she saw bodies thrown out of the vehicle after the multi-cab collided head on with a forward truck.

"With the strong impact, the multi-cab was thrown several meters and landed in front of their house in total wreck," she said.

PO2 Oliver A. Dacalos of Sta. Cruz Police Station identified the victims as Leonardo Gunda, 60, barangay chairman of Brgy. Jose Rizal, who drove the multi-cab, Esperaza Ambrosio, 61, Teresita Aguan, 42, Letecia Manggulayon, 48, and Evelyn Pandacan, 43.

Dacalos said four of the wounded victims were immediately brought to Digos Doctors Hospital while the other six to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital.

He said of the wounded victims, two are 12 years old and another two 16 years while the rest are of legal age.

He said the multi-cab was traveling towards south when the incident happened while the truck towards Davao City.

The truck was overtaking a Metro Shuttle Bus but hit the rear portion of the bus and finally bumped to the approaching multi-cab. The multi-cab was on its right way, he said.

It was reported that the driver of the truck went towards Toril in Davao City to surrender to the police station. (PNA) FFC/DDB/lvp
