MANILA, April 28 – Malacañang on Wednesday asked Filipinos for sobriety and vigilance amid renewed calls for another “People Power” should Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III lose in the presidential elections on May 10.

Executive Secretary Leandro Mendoza said however, there is nothing wrong if it’s only a political statement by Aquino but if he is serious, the Palace official said, it’s a different issue.

Aquino warned of people power should the elections fail during a campaign sortie last March 23 in Alaminos, Pangasinan.

Aquino was quoted as saying "sovereignty resides in people. If they feel their will has been thwarted, I'm sure they will again regain sovereignty among themselves."

However, Aquino dismissed as premature questions on whether he himself will lead such a people power move.

"It's premature to call for people power. It's up to the Comelec whose responsibility is to run elections and to make the process meaningful, worthwhile and reflective," he said. (PNA) LAP/JCA
