MANILA, April 28 -– Four Abu Sayyaf terrorists were killed while four Army Rangers were wounded after government security forces assaulted a bandit lair in the outskirts of Basilan province on Tuesday, a police official said.

Senior Supt. Antonio Mendoza, director of the Basilan Provincial Police Office (PPO), said members of the 4th Scout Ranger Company (SRC) swooped down on an Abu Sayyaf lair located at Abong-Abong Peak in Pamatsaken, Sumisip town at around 7:40 a.m.

”The Scout Rangers managed to get to ASG position undetected. Firefight erupted but ASG leaders managed to break away," said Mendoza.

Mendoza said that an intense firefight erupted but the government troops hit a booby trap, wounding four Rangers.

On the other hand, at least four Abu Sayyaf terrorists were reported killed while several others were wounded during the gun battle.

”Initial report showed that four ASG were killed and several others wounded,” said Mendoza.

Mendoza said pursuit operations was subsequently launched to track down the bandit group. (PNA)
