MARAWI CITY, April 15 – Elated by a huge crowd that filled major thoroughfares here, Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Manny Villar promised on Thursday to eliminate poverty not only in this city but in the whole province of Lanao del Sur.

”I will not ever forget that kind of reception you have shown to me. If I become president, I will keep on returning here in your place to personally check your situation,” said Villar to the delight of the crowd that filled the Quezon Ave. in Bonggolong here.

”I’m very happy to be here. I will not stop my effort to improve your living condition here in Marawi City and Lanao del Sur,” Villar added.

After the well-attended proclamation rally, Villar spearheaded the oath-taking ceremony for 32 mayors, 35 vice mayors and 14 boards from the first and second district of Lanao del Sur at the Lakeside Bangon.

The oath-taking was the result of the formal alliance between and among NP and two local groups Ummah and Ompia. Villar, Ummah chairman Abdul Malik Laguindab, Ompia president Aleem Abumohammad Sarrangani signed the formal coalition.

From the residence of NP gubernatorial candidate Omar Ali Solitario, Villar was joined by the local candidates in a motorcade that toured around the city in an effort to get more support from the city’s registered 67,000 voters in the May 10 elections.

During his campaign sortie in Caraga region last month, Villar promised to the people of Mindanao to put up more infrastructure projects specially for the development of agriculture in the region.

”We should correct a wrong notion that we cannot get out of poverty. It’s now high time to catch up with our progressive neighbors in Asia,” Villar said.

Joined by NP senatorial candidates Susan “Toots” Ople and Gilbert Remulla, Villar also received warm welcome from the local leaders like Solitario, former Lanao del Sur Rep. Benasing Macarambon Jr.,

Meanwhile, NP secretary-general Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano said they are expecting more figures from other parties to join NP and support Villar.

Cayetano cited the latest additions to the NP following the defection of Surigao del Norte Governor Robert Ace Barbers as early as last year. (PNA) LAP/JFM/utb
