Ebarle Sr., lawyers boycott hearing on Ivler's murder case

MANILA, March 30 – Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr., on Tuesday accused Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 74 Judge Alexander Balut as favoring road rage suspect Jason Ivler.

Ivler is accused of shooting to death Ebarle's son Renato Victor Ebarle Jr. during a traffic altercation in November 2009.

Ebarle said this after their lawyers, led by Atty. Romeo Alcantara, boycotted the hearings Tuesday afternoon at the Quezon City Hall of Justice.

He told reporters they would go on with the boycott until Balut inhibits from the case.

Tuesday’s hearing was about Ivler's possible transfer to a detention facility from the Quirino Memorial Medical Center in Project 4, Quezon City.

Ivler’s lawyers presented a doctor who testified that Ivler still had an open colostomy that risks infection if brought to unsanitary conditions.

Ivler's mother, Marlene Aguilar, also petitioned the court not to transfer her son to a jail facility.

But Dr. Romeo R. Abary, the attending physician of Ivler, said the suspect’s wounds were healing and could already move to a detention facility provided by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Abary said Ivler’s wound was only the size of a 25-centavo coin but it was still susceptible to infections. (PNA) RMA/JCA
