MANILA, March 29 -– The Quezon City Regional Trial Court ordered on Monday the release of former Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr., patriarch of a clan linked to the November 23, 2009 massacre in Maguindanao province, after it found no probable cause to indict him for rebellion.

QC Regional Trial Court Branch 77 Judge Vivencio Baclig dismissed the rebellion case which the Department of Justice (DOJ) had filed against Ampatuan Sr.

However, he will remain detained in General Santos City because of pending murder charges against him and several others in connection with the massacre of 57 people, including 32 journalists, in Ampatuan, a Maguindanao town named after his clan.

QC-RTC Branch 221 Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes has a continuous detention order against Ampatuan Sr. and several other members of the family because of the multiple murder cases, which her branch is handling. (PNA) scs/JCA
