MANILA, March 23 —Malacanang said that the relationship of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Jesus Versoza is not strained.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Charito Planas said the relationship of President Arroyo and PNP chief Versoza were still normal contrary to rumors that their relation turned sour after the President reportedly snubbed and did not recognized the PNP chief during the 113th anniversary of the Philippine Army (PA) in Fort Bonifacio last Monday.

Planas said on Tuesday that President Arroyo had no reason to get annoyed at the PNP chief.

”The relation between President Arroyo and PNP chief Versoza are normal. It’s just that they do not speak to each other that often. Bet let’s not put meaning into every gesture of the President because it is unfair to her,” Planas said.

She also claimed there was no reason for President Arroyo to get irritated with the PNP chief after Versoza was quoted as saying that he would not follow any illegal orders from the President.

She said the President would never issued any illegal order and Mrs. Arroyo did not issue any illegal order.

”Let us not put meaning into all her actions. That is too much. Any blink, smile, or frown on her face is given a meaning. The President is also human, can she not frown too?,” Planas said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Presidential Spokesman Gary Olivar also said in a media briefing today in the Palace that what was important was Versoza continued to abide by the chain of command and the rule of law.(PNA)
