MANILA, March 21 — With the start of the local election campaign period just five days away, Valenzuela City incumbent Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian and Vice Mayor Eric Martinez came out as the runaway winners in the mock polls conducted by students of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela (PLV).

Based on the mock election results, Gatchalian garnered a total of 1,254 votes, light years away from his closest rival, Pabs Hernandez, who only had 34 votes. The other mayoral candidate, Manny Carreon, got 23 votes.

In the fight for the vice mayoral seat, incumbent Eric Martinez led the pack with 1,062 votes. In comparison, Councilor Mar Morelos received only 276 votes while Councilor Jun Santiago garnered 88 votes.

Performed within campus grounds last Feb. 18, 2010, the mock election was jointly administered by the Guidance and Counseling Center and the Union of Public Administration Student of PLV.

A total of 1,355 students, all of whom are registered voters of Valenzuela City, took part in the mock election.

Gatchalian thanked the students of PLV for trusting in his leadership as evidenced in the mock polls.

Even Martinez was delighted with the outcome of the mock election. Although he was aware that he had a strong following among the youth of the city, the vice mayor said he was still pleasantly surprised with the lead that he had over his rival candidates. (PNA)

If a total of 1,355 students participated in the said polls, how come the votes for the vice mayoral position got a total of 1,426? Uso din ba ang dagdag bawas even in mock elections?
