Laos, Mongolia vow to boost agricultural cooperation

HANOI, March 22 — Laos and Mongolia agreed to boost cooperation in agriculture, especially in food production, livestock, veterinary care, forestry and light industry, the Lao newspaper Vientiane Times reported Monday.
The agreement was signed in Vientiane by Lao Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sitaheng Rasphone and T. Badamjunai, Mongolian Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
Under the agreement, the two sides agreed to formulate joint collaborative projects involving both the public and private agricultural sectors of the two countries to set up joint venture companies in rice production and processing, said the newspaper.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen the exchange of technicians, experts and researchers in areas of mutual interest including the private sector, and foster private sector involvement by both sides through joint ventures and business programs.
On the basis of cooperation agreement, Laos will consider a number of proposals by Mongolia including the transferring agricultural land use rights of 10,000 hectares in Laos to Mongolian companies to produce rice and other crops, the development of sheep farming in Laos and the establishment of Mongolian agriculture cooperation center in Laos.
Mongolia would provide Laos necessary assistance to develop the agriculture sector, especially the veterinary care and breeding, said the newspaper. (PNA/Xinhua)
