MANILA, March 9 – Aviation police on Monday arrested a person who attempted to transport methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, with an estimated street value of P700,000, in a cargo aboard a domestic flight to Bacolod City.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina said that Xavier Louis Rosales was taken into custody by elements of the Aviation Security Group after his cargo yielded more or less 100 grams of shabu sealed in four plastic sachets.

Espina said that Rosales was aboard a Cebu Pacific Flight 5J from Manila to Bacolod City, which landed at Silay Airport Station at around 7 p.m.

Reports said that Rosales declared his cargo as biscuit but routine X-ray at the airport showed granule image that prompted authorities to conduct further check on the item that turned out to be shabu.

Elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) subsequently took Rosales under custody as proper charges are being readied against him.

Espina said PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa commended the government authorities involved in the successful operation, which is part of the PNP’s step up measures against proliferation of illegal drugs. (PNA) RMA/MM
