Newly installed Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Bernie Fondevilla (2nd right photo) says during the “Kapihan sa Sulo” Saturday, March 6, that there is no food shortage in the country as only several regions are affected by the El NiÒo phenomenon. These regions are 2, 4, 5, 6 and 12, with Region 2 incurring the heaviest losses of 10 percent of its rice and corn crops ready for harvest in Cagayan Valley. Fondevilla says the DA is now distributing water pumps and supporting affected farmers with an emergency employment program. Meanwhile, National Power Corporation (Napocor) spokesman Dennis Gana (2nd from left) discussed the power crisis specially in Mindanao. He urged the public to conserve or minimize the use of electricity.
