2 quakes rock Batanes

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte, March 6 — Two successive earthquakes hit the Batanes Group of Islands Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the first quake, with 5.0 magnitude, occurred at 9:43 a.m. with its epicenter located at 54 kilometers east of Batanes with a depth of 28 kilometers.

The tremor was felt at intensity 4 in Basco, Batanes and intensity 3 in Sabtang and Itbayat Islands.

An aftershock of 4.7 magnitude and located at 30 kilometers south of Basco, Batanes with a depth of 28 kilometers followed two minutes later. Intensity 4 was again registered in Basco, Batanes.
