(Metro News) 12 injured in pillbox explosion in Manila

MANILA, March 3 — Twelve persons, 11 of them college students, were injured when a pillbox exploded Wednesday at noon in front of a food house in Sampaloc, Manila.

Five victims identified as Chester Ramos, John Aldrin Calisterio, Roneth Harold Timbang, Richard Salvador and Marco Villanueva were rushed to the University of Santo Tomas Hospital for treatment.

The other victims — Julieta Cloma, John Michael Using, Carina Calma, Julie Valena, Bryan Ramos, and Erickson Magsino — and Joseph Bernat, a college instructor, were all were taken to Perpetual Help Hospital.

Reports said all the victims were eating in Dades Sizzling House at the corner of Concepcion corner Laong Laan Streets when two unidentified men suddenly appeared then lobbed a pillbox.

The suspects, both described to be between 20 to 25 years old, fled on board a gray motorcycle without license plate.

Superintendent Ramon Pranada, chief of the Manila Police District Station 4, said the incident occurred at 12:15 p.m.

He said an alleged fraternity war could be the motive behind the explosion. (PNA) vcs/JES
