BIR reminds taxpayers of last day of ITR filing on April 15

MANILA, March 2 – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Tuesday reminded taxpayers to file their 2009 income tax returns (ITR) early before the April 15, 2010 deadline.

BIR National Capital Region director Romulo Aguila Jr. said several measures had been adopted to make it more convenient for taxpayers to file their 2009 income tax returns (ITR) and easier for banks to process them.

Aguila said there would be no more multiple stamping of ITRs and attachments by banks except the page of audit certificate and the three copies of the returns.

He said BIR commissioner Joel Tan-Torres urged individual and corporate taxpayers to file their returns early to avoid the hustle that normally occurs during rush hours.

The BIR chief earlier stressed that like in the past, the April 15 deadline will not be extended and late filers will be slapped the usual fines and surcharges. (PNA)RMA/JCA
