MANILA, Feb. 28 – Revenue collections of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reached P15.17 billion in February this year, or P2 billion more than the P13.11 billion goal for the month.

The figure covered 17 days of the 19 days that BOC can collect throughout its districts.

However, despite the overall positive collection, its two biggest ports –the Manila International Container Port (MICP) and Port of Limay in Bataan — posted deficits.

MICP is still P782 million shy of its P4.82 billion target for the month while Limay only collected P722 million for the period, less than half of its P1.9 billion target.

On the other hand, Port of Batangas had the most number of revenues, collecting P4.3 billion, or P1.13 billion higher than its target.

Port of Manila, the country’s second largest, collected P3.4 billion, breaching its target by P785 million.

Other ports that will likely to overshoot their targets are Iloilo, Tacloban, Subic Bay, Clark Field, and Aparri.

Ninoy Aquino International Airport was P139 million short of its P1.26 billion target for the period.

This is the second time the BOC recorded positive collection. The bureau also recorded a surplus on their collection in January due to increased importation of steel and cars. (PNA)
