MANILA, Feb. 10 – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is set to break ground for the P100-million "Disiplina Village" of Valenzuela City on Friday (February 12) which is expected to benefit 1,800 families whose houses were devastated by the onslaught of typhoon "Frank" on Sept. 26, 2009.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian said that President Arroyo will personally grace the groundbreaking ceremonies of the "Disiplina Village" at 9 a.m. on Friday.

The "Disiplina Village" is a Gawad Kalinga-style housing project that consists of 56 medium-rise cluster housing buildings, wherein the lot and the site development will be shouldered by the local government of Valenzuela and the construction materials will be shouldered by "Dakilang Handog Foundation", a private non-stock, non-profit foundation.

Gatchalian said the "Disiplina Village" is patterned after that of the housing project of Taguig City Mayor Sigfrid Tinga, which has become a tremendous success.

The Valenzuela City chief executive stressed that they will conduct consultations with the beneficiaries for a better concept as regards the monthly amortization of about P300 to P500, which is enough to maintain the development of the site project.

The initial project for the initial 48 families already relocated in the site in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City has an estimated material cost of P1,448,289 such that the material cost per building, each building of which is composed of 16 units with an area of 26 square meters each unit, translates to P90,000 per unit.

Gatchalian stressed that they have resorted to a simple concept of "rental" for the meantime so as to expedite and fast track the relocation of the beneficiaries in the "Disiplina Village".

The 36-year-old city mayor pointed out that the relocatees' houses, whether totally or partially damaged, stretching along the Tullahan River in Valenzuela City, will be destroyed and the embankment will be barricaded so as to prevent others from again occupying the said place.

The "Disiplina Village" will have a multi-purpose covered court, a daycare center, a health center and a livelihood training center. (PNA)
