GENEVA, Feb. 9 — A United Nations trade report released on Monday promoted "clean" growth in developing countries as a response to the financial crisis.
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development's (UNCTAD) 2009/2010 trade and environment review advised developing countries to shift their focus to energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture and off-grid renewable power.
"The urgency of the crisis gives governments of the world's poorer nations the chance to redirect resources to economic growth, " the organization said in a statement.
UNCTAD's review suggested that transitioning to a "clean" economy could yield economic growth, job and income creation and environmental sustainability.
The Geneva-based UNCTAD was established in 1964 as a permanent intergovernmental body. (PNA/Xinhua)
