MANILA, Feb. 8 — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Jesus A. Verzosa on Monday urged police officers to promote transformational leadership in the organization to improve service efficiency in the police force.
Verzosa said transformational leadership is necessary for the PNP to completely achieve the objectives of the PNP Integrated Transformation Program.
The PNP chief said every leader must possess the ability to identify problems and dysfunctions within the unit or organization, must be able to acknowledge the problem, and must be able to find ways to correct these organizational defects.
Verzosa reiterated his call to leadership today as he officially administered the Oath of Office to 1,307 PNP Commissioned Officers and Police Non-Commissioned Officers assigned in the PNP National Headquarters and National Support Units stationed in Camp Crame who were promoted to the next higher rank.
Simultaneous oath-taking ceremonies were held in all Police Regional Offices for 12,397 PNP personnel assigned in the Regional Offices.
Verzosa said the huge number of promoted police personnel translates to increased 'professional aptitude and proficiency' in the police service.
According to Police Director Abner Cabalquinto, PNP Director for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM), the promotion of 15,237 PNP uniformed personnel is part of the CY-2009 Regular Promotion Program.
The newly-promoted PNP personnel include 2,185 Police Commissioned Officers (PCO) with ranks of Police Inspector to Police Superintendent, and 13,062 Police Non-Commissioned Officers (PNCO) with ranks of Police Officer 2 to Senior Police Officer 4.
The 15,237 newly-promoted PNP personnel are made up of 356 from the National Headquarters, 2,484 from the National Support Units, and 12,397 from the Police Regional Offices.
