MANILA, Jan. 30 – Malacañang on Saturday said the Philippine Air Force (PAF) is now working at ways to prevent a repeat of another plane crash because “our priority is to ensure the safety of our airmen.”

A 12-seater Nomad plane, with Maj. Gen Mario Lacson and seven other military officers onboard, crashed into a residential area in Cotabato City Thursday, killing all on board and one civilian on the ground.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Ricardo Saludo asked the media to also be circumspect about gathering comments on the cause of the plane crash from legislators, who had claimed that corruption and not the antiquity of the plane or mechanical defect was behind the crash.

“As media practitioners, it is your duty to question the basis for comments like these and get into the bottom of things,” Saludo said in a radio interview this morning. (PNA) RMA/ops/jsd
