MANILA, Jan. 21 –Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confiscated alleged fake Crocs footwear and other merchandises worth millions of pesos during successive raids at the Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan and St. Francis Square Mall in Ortigas, Mandaluyong, on Thursday morning.

Armed with search warants issued by a Manila Regional Trial Court, operatives of the NBI-Intellectual Property Right Division, headed by lawyer Dante Bonoan, raided several stalls in the two shopping complex at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Lawyer Raymond Roland Rojas, legal counsel of Crocs Inc., had sought help of the NBI after learning that the establishments were allegedly engaged in selling and distributing Crocs footwear.

The lawyer said that only last month, also with the assistance of the operatives of the NBI, they raided various malls and warehouses in Manila and seized more than P71-million worth of counterfeit Crocs goods. The raids were conducted at 168 mall in Binondo, Manila and other “tiangge” stalls nearby.

Shyla Carmina Reyes of the Crocs Inc., said they have yet to account the total amount of seized Crocs but she said that at least four sacks per stalls were seized from various stalls in the two shopping complex. But they estimated that the amount would reach millions of pesos.

Rojas said criminal charges were being prepared for trademark infringement and/or unfair competition against the owners and operators of the stalls and warehouses. (PNA) RMA/JES
